Kolster represents its clients in the new court
01.06.2023The Unified Patent Court (UPC) starts its operation today, 1 June 2023. Kolster is prepared for the arrival of the European unitary patent system and offers comprehensive support to clients.
The Unified Patent Court is a court common to 17 EU member states in which the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court is in force. The court can render decisions concerning all member states bound by the agreement. Legal proceedings in the Unified Patent Court require a combination of technical and legal expertise, as well as experience in patent litigation.
"The advantage for our clients is that we can efficiently provide comprehensive support for future patent litigations," says Sini Petsalo, Kolster's IP Lawyer, Patent Attorney, European Trademark and Design Attorney.
In Finland, the local division of the Unified Patent Court operates in connection with the Market Court. Thus, litigations concerning European patents and European patents with unitary effect will also take place in Helsinki in future. Kolster handles the clients' litigations in other locations of the Unified Patent Court as well, utilizing its international partner network when necessary.
With the European unitary patent system, the number of patents valid in Finland is likely to significantly increase over the years. At the same time, the risk of patent infringements will increase. Kolster’s experienced lawyers and patent attorneys specializing in patent litigation are qualified and prepared to represent clients in the Unified Patent Court.
